Success Stories

VIP Construction and Design, Modesto, CA

I think what most benefited us this year through SBDC was having
Rhonda and SBDC there to guide us. Fortunately, construction has
remained an essential business throughout most of the COVID
crisis and so we have been able to continue working.
What hit us hard was that we didn’t become a contractor until
March 2020 when everything fell apart. It became a challenge to
promote our growing business to folks who were scared to have us
in their home due to the virus or to spend their money when
finances became so unsure. We had people pull out of contracts in
the beginning. With Rhonda’s help and encouragement we kept
trucking along, maintained social media presence, created a
website and are staying busy.

Tony Porcayo and Maggie Naughton , Owners

VIP Construction and Design is actually the coming together of two former businesses, Carpintero Rustico and Chic Furnishings. After operating successfully for a few years, it became evident that they could be much more efficient by combining their efforts under one company. They started making custom farmhouse barn doors and baby gates and the occasional accent slat wall and Maggie offered custom painted furniture. Their work began to get noticed not only by regular customers but by developers and contractors as well. Tony went on to get his General Contractor’s license in March 2020 and began earnestly promoting their business up and down the State. Recently they connected with a well-known development company in Northern California where they assigned a crew to begin working on a large housing development project. Their work now covers additions, custom homes, remodels, renovations and outdoor living.
